Beach Walks with Rox #578 - Elephants & Giraffes
January
After a short family visit and the obligatory H&Q conference and festivities, we dashed off again to Hawai'i enjoying sea, sand and beaches. Upon return more of the rainy season greeted us with intermittent closures of Hwy 1 & 92.
April
In view of new arrivals we added new footing to the paddocks but more importantly to the arena turning it into a true sandbox. Our new girls PCR Karahtys Hilali and PCR Anisa Halima finally made it down from our friends ranch in Oregon to Purisima Creek Ranch. After a few days the two girls had settled in quite nicely while stirring the otherwise male horse community here.
May
The month saw already two fires in this years season. The first was just down the road in an Eucalyptus groove consuming 1.5 acres. The second fire was quite further South in the Santa Cruz Mountains and consumed 4,200 acres crossing into Santa Clara County. Some 200 horses needed to be evacuated in the Summit Fire and SMC MSAR was briefly activated. Although it was about 30 miles South, right where the 89' Loma Prieta epicenter was,, it gaves us a serious warning as to what might happen in this years fire season.
